A Five Year Old Man

2 Feb

Friday was Owen’s birthday and he was beyond excited.  I was worried that he might be sad about no presents but it didn’t come up at all.  He loved having control over everything we did in the day.  So here’s what we did:

  • got a donut after taking Cole to school
  • watched STAR WARS episode 2 while snuggling
  • played at Kai’s house
  • Kai’s mom Chie specially made Owen Japanese lunch like he wanted (pictures below). This was his favorite part of the whole day
  • listened to SMOOTH CRIMINAL many many times since it is O’s favorite song
  • Ate cake before dinner…which ended up sad because he apparently doesn’t like carrot cake any more
  • played a family game (Quirkle…buy it…great)
  • Smith family called and sang and he was so happy
  • Saturday he got to Skype with Thailand folks, as requested, and Alaska grandparents
  • Fishing with dad and Cole

This is the first birthday of Owen’s entire life when he has not been sickly.  His little body is doing so well of late and it is lovely.  He’s grown very social going to preschool and he is frustrated that reading is hard for him and not for Cole, so we have lots of chats about practicing.  He loves animals and nature and plans to be an etymologist when he grows up.

The lunch looks awesome. Birthday balloons are the best. Happy birthday, Owen!

I want to eat that lunch too. Also a fan of both seaweed and ninjas. Awesome.
